The Beacon Hill Rifle & Pistol Club will celebrate 50 years of existence on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the club's range, located 4 miles north of Volga on 460th Avenue. The menu includes turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet corn, pickled beets, cranberry salad, dinner rolls, assorted pies, and coffee and juice. The Brookings Public Library will host the Manhattan Short Film Festival on Monday, Sept. 30, and Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m. Five of the films will be shown the first night, and the other five will be shown the second night. At the showing, viewers will have the chance to vote for their favorite films and actors and winners will be announced on the festival's website on Oct. 7.

Brookings Community Sing's first gathering starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St. Come as you are and bring a friend. All ages and experience levels welcome. There's no admission fee and no need to be able to read music – just bring your voice, in whatever shape it's in. The group won't be practicing to perform but singing for enjoyment, for consolation, for celebration. They'll build community through song and lean on each other and learn together.
